FAQs

  • You can expect an 80-minute session that focuses on gentle exploration and conversation, moving at your own pace.

Initial sessions typically involve discussions aimed at understanding who you are, the challenges you're facing, and your hopes or goals. You or your caregiver(s) may be asked to complete questionnaires, scales, and assessments to assist in shaping the counseling plan.

After the assessment, we will propose a course of action based upon your desired outcome from therapy. If you don’t have clear goals yet, that’s perfectly fine too! We'll meet you wherever you're at in your journey.

  • Commitment in therapy is important, but there's no obligation to follow a fixed plan. Most people typically attend between 10 to 15 sessions, while others may stay in therapy for months or years. The duration and frequency of sessions is highly individualized and dependent upon a variety of factors such as: goals, connection with the therapist, acuity of symptoms, level of impairment, and motivation.

We're here for as long or as little as you need us!

  • It depends! In some cases, involving parents in sessions can be very helpful for reinforcing progress and supporting the use of new skills. Other times, especially with teenagers, clients may prefer not to have their parents involved, and that's completely fine too. We usually ask parents to participate in the assessment phase to ensure we get a full understanding of the situation.

  • Most likely! Many private insurance companies and workplaces provide coverage for counselling offered by registered social workers and psychotherapists.

While we don’t bill your insurance provider directly, you will always receive a receipt that you can use to submit for reimbursement.

Please note that private social worker and psychotherapy services are not covered by OHIP.

  • Our cancellation policy aligns with private therapy practice standards: we request a minimum 24 hours' notice for canceling any counseling appointments.

If you cancel or reschedule less than 24 hours before your scheduled time. or if you do not attend your appointment, you will be charged the full cost of the session.

Thank you for your understanding and support.

  • Confidentiality underpins trust and respect in the therapeutic relationship, which is why it is our highest priority to ensure we adhere to the highest standards of confidentiality.

Our clinical standards follow current privacy guidelines set out by the Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA). Additionally, the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW) requires members to maintain strict confidentiality regarding clients' personal and health information.

There are some extreme scenarios in which regulated health professionals are legally required to break confidentiality, such as when there are imminent safety risks, child abuse, or with the expressed consent of the client.
