Parenting Consult
Parental involvement is crucial in improving therapy outcomes for a child. A parent’s active role helps to reinforce and normalize gains, identify gaps in current parental approach, and supports effective and engaged attachment with your child.
What is a Parenting Consult?
A specialized form of therapy designed to support and enhance parenting skills.
Evidence-based techniques to help parents manage challenges and improve family dynamics.
May include a one-time consult, individual sessions, family meetings, or sessions that occur alongside your child’s individual therapy.
What to Expect
Collaborative Environment: supportive space where your concerns and goals are heard.
Identifying Challenges: address specific issues such as discipline, developmental concerns, or family dynamics.
Explore Underlying Issues: discuss stress, past experiences, or relationship dynamics impacting parenting.
Psychoeducation: providing parents with knowledge and understanding of child development, parenting strategies, and psychological concepts to enhance parenting skills and improve family dynamics.
Sessions are typically 50 minutes in length (this allows for 10 minutes at the end of the hour for therapists to write their notes and plan for your next session).
Equip parents with strategies to manage behaviour and emotional needs of child.
Improved validation and active listening skills.
Building consistency in your home rhythms, including ways to positively reinforce behaviours.
Support parental well-being: helping parents manage their own stress and mental health.
Align both parenting approaches to ensure that parents are a team and on the same page.
